LETTERS TO DEAR DR. HEALTH
Trouble In The Ghetto
July 17, 2015

Dear Dr. Health,

Although I’m very poor, I am honest, kind and a man of great pride. I live in Chicago and like many of us here, have fallen on hard times. I have three sons and even as I fought to raise them with some sense of what is right and wrong; the evil forces of ghetto life plucked them from my grasp. The oldest one’s a junkie while my middle boy is serving three to five for armed robbery and aggravated assault. My youngest boy, a gentle soul, has heart trouble and cannot go to school. Since his mama ran away last year, I have found it hard to care for him. Even my part time job has suffered and last week I lost my job. It all seems so hopeless but I do still have my pride.

Dear R.T.,

Beware of false pride. Let’s be realistic. What in heaven's name are you proud of? Your are in a hopeless situation which is probably why it seems that way to you. At the very least your misery has not distorted your keen perception. I say “Bravo” to your perception and the best of luck. And remember, I really care.
